I love this. Celebrating and singing with seemingly half of Dublin in the wee hours of Monday, after winning on Sunday evening. This is what I love about the Irish. Everybody’s invited, everybody’s included. Everybody even gets to pass the cup around!
This is the first time the Open has been played on the island of Ireland since 1951. For an Irishman to win it is just enormous.
The song they’re singing is called “Low Lies The Field Of Athenry.” It’s about a prisoner about to be deported to Australia under the hated English rule.
